  • ORIGIN OF TOWNSHIP: Named in honor of Judge Charles Shaler. In 1788, the Court of Quarter Sessions of Allegheny County established the township of Pitt, which included the land north of the Allegheny and Ohio rivers in Allegheny County. During the next 13 year, the township split six times until Shaler Township was formed.
